Thanks for visiting the webpage for Diane Hubbard, chemistry teacher and department co-chair at Barry Goldwater High School. I have lived in Arizona since 1976. We moved here from Spain where my father had built a nuclear power plant. We ended up in AZ so my father could build Palo Verde. I am a 1980 graduate from Aqua Fria High School and went on to NAU. I have been teaching for the past 20 years. I began my teacher career here at Goldwater and have no plans on leaving (sorry if this disappoints anyone)! As a "youngster" I really had no plans to become an educator. I was extremely interested in science and ended up with an extended degree in biology and a minor in chemistry. With my biology degree I found myself taking on all sorts of interesting jobs. As an example, I spent 4 months living on the rim of the Grand Canyon (alone) studying how aircraft affect the foraging patterns of the Big Horn sheep. I then left for Alaska where I spent several months on a Japanese trawler 500 miles off the coast of Dutch Harbor in the Bering Sea. I was a foreign fisheries observer making sure our waters were not over-fished and that the crew was catching what they were suppose to. Once again I found myself working alone. Not good for me being that I like people! Finally I took on a job with Arizona Game and Fish where I spent time in the Grand Canyon studying fish in the Colorado River. Although these jobs were incredible they were not satisfying. I wanted to share my love for science with people!! This is where teaching came in. I returned to NAU for my teaching certification continued on to receive my masters degree and before I knew it I was teaching at Goldwater. This is the perfect "fit" for me and I am grateful for the opportunity I have each and every day!
